Woking FC very kindly gave GB Deaf Women the opportunity to carry out a
bucket collection during their recent friendly match against Aldershot
Town FC at Kingfield
We first established contact with Chris Sexton the Woking FC Community Coach, when we went to Kingfield to take part in the presentation of Woking FC's NDCS Deaf Friendly Football award earlier this year.
This resulted in an invitation for GBDWF to do a bucket collection during the friendly match against Aldershot
Town FC on 28th July at Kingfield. Camilla Willis, Susanna Kenward, Natasha Ryan and Victoria Wenman were the confident bucket
holders, rattling and appealing for funds.
We were staggered by the generosity of the Woking and Aldershot fans, the collection came to a grand total of £319.70p!
GBDWF are very grateful to Woking FC for allowing them to do this, and in particular Chris Sexton the Woking FC Community Coach for making this possible and their great support with the publicity. This was a great opportunity to raise the profile of Deaf Women's football at a mainstream match. And what topped the evening off was that Woking beat their great rivals, 2 leagues above them, 1-0!
Hats off to Woking FC. You are a great, caring community club!
