| England and GBDWF trials |
| 30/05/2010 |
Great Britain Women |
As part of the working partnership between GBDWF and the Football
Association, trials were held for the England Futsal squad and the GBDWF
11 a side squad at the Swindon Futsal Arena on the 1st & 2nd May. The aim of these trials was to select players for
the initial training squad in preparation for both the 2010 European
Deaf Futsal Championships at
Wintherthur, Switzerland on 6-14 November and for the 2011 European
Deaf
Football Championships at Sofia, Bulgaria on 11-22 June.
Head Coach Julie Callaghan and I were both pleased that these trials was
a positive success. A total of 40 players expressed their interest to
attend these
trials, with 30 players attending over these two days. GBDWF would like to thank these players who made the effort to attend these trials and showing their interest in being considered for selection; we do appreciate this.
A provisional squad of 18 players and 4 more on stand-by have been selected to attend the forthcoming training weekends. The individual players have been duly informed by letter and are expected to attend on these dates. This squad has an combination of experienced players, and some exciting new faces, providing an injection of fresh blood for England/GBDWF. The final squad will then be trimmed down to 12 players for the Fustal event in Switzerland.
Training weekends will be held on the following dates:
14th - 16th May - Lilleshall
9th - 11th July - Lilleshall
20th-22nd August - Lilleshall
3rd - 5th September - Hereford
1st -
3rd October - Lilleshall
22nd - 24th October - Lilleshall
Prepare to Fail or Fail to Prepare!
As preparation in good time is
vital, the squad will be asked to work and maintain their fitness, football
skills and vision. With access to excellent football facilities at
Lilleshall on those training weekends warm-up matches will certainly
assist the players to attain a very high standard of physical abilities,
technical and mental skills.
Regular assessment on the selected
players will determine this, and it is absolutely vital that the team
has the right blend of players in order to participate in the
forthcoming Futsal and Football Championships.
I would like to offer
commiseration to those who attended the trials and were not selected. May I highlight the point that the door to the squad has not been firmly
closed. As this is a provisional squad, there will still be opportunities for players to be invited to training weekends and the posisbility of being added to the squad over the next 12 months in the event of a player having to pull out due to injury. Julie Callaghan and I will continue to look at
players as we will always be looking to improve the squad. Therefore
there will be other opportunities for other players to be considered for
selection. Players would be strongly advised to participate
in the forthcoming
Paul Gerrard Trophy - MDSA Open 5-a-side
Tournament which will be held on Saturday, 12 June 2010 Aldersley Leisure Village, Aldersley Road, Wolverhampton on Saturday 12th June 2010.

On
behalf of the GBDWF Management team, I would like to offer congratulations to the
squad players on their selection and wish them the very best in their training
preparations for the forthcoming Futsal & Football Championships over
the next 12 months.
Yours in football,
Niall
