Whithworth Ladies FC v GB Deaf Women Football Tournament
Head Coach, George McGowan invited 22 GB Deaf Women from all over the country coming as far as Cornwall and Scotland on 12-13 April 2008.

After training on Saturday, preparing for a tournament held at Whitworth FC – the home of Claire Stancliffe who has been actively involved into organising this tournament with her parents support and Dave Ekins (Whitworths Ladies manager).

Selecting the first 11 proved to be a headache for George, because over the weekend everyone proved to be fully committed to be in the team.

Carly Waters was given the Captain armband, with Lydia Docker as Vice Captain.

With 15mins each way, GB needed to find a quick break through to get things in motion.

First Half

After the kick off, GB was quickly in control of the game with Eleni Botonaki and Claire Stancliffe taking control in the middle of the game.

Goal! Playing the formation of 3-4-3, which meant GB had attacking frame of mind, which paid off after 3 minutes in the game when Camilla Willis bagged the first goal of the tournament.

Goal! After 10 mins, Whitworth handled the ball in the box. Cath Egley scored a fine penalty scoring with conviction.

Goal! Just before the break, at 12 mins Mandy Tobin scored the third goal.

Second Half

After making some substitutions, GB attacked again. With several through balls for Camilla Willis, with credit to Whitworth they threw themselves at every opportunity to quieten Camilla Willis and Cath Egley, Which frustrated them at times, but a tactical move by Cath Egley to move at wider area that produce the 4th goal of the match;

Goal! A low pass from Cath Egley from the wing, which results a new player to score her first goal for GB. Gemma Sanders from Cornwall.

Natasha Roberts made a surging run from left back to the penalty box much to Whitworth surprise, only to find her pass to a player lacked power to finish.

Final Score: 0-4 (GB win)

Corby S n L Ladies Reserves FC v GB Deaf Women.

Inside information said that Corby is the team to watch out for, George decided on 4-4-2 formation.

First Half

A tricky match, as Corby had several players who were determined to keep a low score.

Goal! 5 mins into the game, Camilla Willis bagged her second goal in the tournament.

Camilla Willis terrorised Corby with her lighting speed. Victoria Wenman making an impact from the left wing with the support from Laura Wiseman behind her.

Mandy Tobin showed her own strength by tackling Corby's left wing and run three quarters of the pitch to the other end that produce a corner.

Goal! 11 mins - Coming from a corner, Victoria Wenman poached a goal after a shuffle inside the box. Much to her delight!

Second Half

A quiet second half.

Camilla Willis and Louise Hogan were guilty from two very bad misses.

GB Defenders had a quiet tournament so far; Lydia Docker and Cath Hamill dictated the back line.

Final Score: 0-2 (GB win)

GB Deaf Women v Earls Barton Ladies FC

First Half

Arch rivals of Claire Stancliffe's team, she was determined to play this match – when it was decided to rest Claire and move Cath Egley in Centre midfield.

A long first half which results with no goals, Earls Barton was a team that GB can't mess about. The back four worked in a tight unit, supporting each other as Earls Barton showed determination when they attacked.

Second Half

Goal! Within 3 mins into the 2nd Half, Earls Barton exposed GB midfield that produce a counter attack which lead to the first goal against GB Deaf Women team. The girls were shell-shocked.

The girls pulled up their sleeves and went to find a goal for themselves.

Goal! 21mins – Ceria Toal scored an equaliser! Much to the girl's relief!

Final Score: 1-1 (Draw)

Group standing:

1. GB Deaf Women: 2 Win 1 Draw

2. Corby: 2 Win 1 Lost

3. Earls Barton: 1 Win 1 Draw 1 Loss

4. Whitworth: 3 Losses

Semi-final: GB Deaf Women v Earls Barton.

After lunch, the girls were ready for another match against resistance Earls Barton.

First Half

Zoe Overing came in as Left back, so Laura Wiseman can push up the left midfield.

With Laura Wiseman's sublime crosses, it was proved to be important throughout the match.

Natasha Roberts has a big task to mark Earls Barton's best player (number 14), as Natasha Roberts is only 17 years old, she showed immense strength to shut down Earls Barton's number 14 left winger.

Second Half

No goals was scored after the second half, it came to the grudge to play in extra time.

Extra Time

Goal! Straight into the extra time, Laura Wiseman produce a sharp cross from the left to inside the penalty box, where Camilla Willis came in to slide in the ball into the goal! The girls were ecstatic!

Goal! GB did not sit back on one goal, they attacked with great confidence. With Eleni Botowaki being fouled outside the box. Louise Hogan took the free kick which landed inside the box, where Claire Stancliffe controlled and thundered the ball inside the goal mouth!

GB women are now in the final!

Final Score: After extra time 2-0 (GB win)

Final: GB Deaf Women v Corby S n L Ladies Reserves.

First Half

After a long day playing football, it was a tense start.

The defenders were reliable and consistence throughout the tournament, in the final – they were sharp at any threats that came to their way.

The first half went a long period of time with no goals, until the last minute.

Goal! 14 mins, Sarah Page scored her first goal for GB, after coming face to face with Corby's goalkeeper – she calming slot the ball into the goal.

Second Half

Into the second half, GB dominated the whole match playing quick one to one passing. With Eleni Botonaki controlling the midfield and fought for possession.

Goal! A fantastic cross saw Sarah Page getting the goal of the tournament! After the cross arrived at the penalty box, Sarah volleyed in the ball with one touch which left the Goalkeeper no chance to save it.

Goal! Louise Hogan had a huge impact in the final, which she dazzled the opposition with her skills. This pleased the audience. After several tries, Louise finally got her goal that ended the tournament with a high. She dribbled from the half way line, showing her tricks and coolly slot the ball into the goal. With her proud mother watching.
