Phillip Gardner nominated for a prestigious award
Phillip Gardner has been nominated for a prestigious award being hosted by Signature, which will host an awards evening on Thursday 12th November to recognise excellence in improving communications between deaf and hearing people.

Phillip has worked tirelessly for GB Football often at the expense of his family, work and social life in order to change GB Football for the better since the fiasco of the European Football Championships collaspe in Sheffield, 2001. Since then, GB Men have scupped a Gold medal at the 20th Deaflympics and a Silver medal at the 6th European Championships and were favourites at the 21st Deaflympics but were shockingly knocked out of the group stages. GB Football has no doubt come a long way in the last 10 years with numerous volunteers on board, a new website, and getting Ian Holloway as Patron on board behind our cause.

Phillip's ability to keep players and fans on their toes is a small part of what he has offered in his managerial set up - he is able to communicate openly and easily ; orally, SSE or BSL. So it's always the feet that do the talking when it comes to Football for Phillip - communication is never an issue whatever the background of the talented and elite player that comes on board.

As the boys will no doubt know...Phil constantly repeats his famous mantra of reminding the boys to put their hands up to ask for the information or clarification if they do not understand what they have just heard/seen!

Being shortlisted is in itself a real achievement and GB Football are extremely proud of this nomination. We hope Phillip will be awarded the Joseph Maitland Award on the evening but even if he is not, he remains a hero amongst the deaf football community!
